My Fat Was a Symptom

Most people hear about my health improvements and attribute them to weight loss. WRONG! My fat was a SYMPTOM ... along with sleep apnea, rheumatoid arthritis, and high blood pressure. Within a month of changing my diet, I had only shed about 15 pounds - but my apnea (and snoring) were already completely gone (and I had been on a CPAP machine at weights far below that). My blood pressure had already begun to drop precipitously. And, best of all, the joint pain I had dealt with every day since I was 27 was gone (and remains gone to this day).


I had reached the point where I gave up on losing weight. I just decided to "Seek first the Kingdom of God" by becoming as healthy as I could be so that I could be what God designed me to be in my family, my church, my community, and the world.


When I stopped evaluating diets by what could burn more fat the quickest and started evaluating by what dietary lifestyle resulted in real health and longevity ... When I stopped looking for role models who looked like I wanted to look and started looking for role models who had the health and vitality in their 80s and 90s that I wanted to have ... the choice became obvious to me. And, as with so many others who have developed a similar healthy lifestyle, my only regret is that I didn't do it sooner.


I still swim in the same gene pool. But, I'm living in a way that has completely changed the way those genes express. I discovered that my genes are not my destiny any more than my sin nature is. I have choices moment by moment .. and so do you!
